Louis Sargeant, championship winning boxer, accomplished martial arts instructor, and experienced coach has been actively involved in the Richmond BC fitness community since 1994.
With his extensive training background, Louis developed his own training regime. He believes you can better motivate people by working out with them and providing positive encouragement, rather than simply yelling at them, a common complaint by boot camp participants. He doesn’t believe in diets; instead he encourages students to combine regular exercise with healthy eating. It is this attitude towards training that has kept Louis in top form, and helped countless others reach their own personal fitness goals.
Louis ran Thunder Boxing, a boxing, kickboxing and self-defense gym in Richmond for 3 years. He was even commissioned by the Plaza Hotel to produce self-defense training videos for their security staff.
"I'm married, have four kids and sell cars for a living. When someone tells me that they don't have time to work out for an hour three times a week, I don't buy that."
-- Louis Sargeant |
An accomplished boxer, Louis has over 25 years of boxing experience, 9 years of that fighting professionally, and he currently holds the Washington State Championship Belt in the super-middleweight division. Louis also earned his 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo having trained for 14 years and taught for 6.
Louis was born in Georgetown, Guyana and lived there until the age of 11 when he moved to Calgary. He was always active in sports, but it wasn't until he discovered his heroes Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan that he entered the martial arts world in which he excelled. He accepted a wrestling scholarship at the University of Calgary and coached track & field at Calgary high schools over the course of 3 years. He entered the professional boxing arena in 1999, skipping the amateur scene. Louis is a self-made fighter, having managed his training, career choices and promotion right from the start.
